Method

How we think about websites that sell.

This is the working version of our philosophy. We build branded performance marketing websites for small businesses: clear story, confident next step, and a site you can actually own and run. Written for owners who want the model, not a sales pitch.

    01 / Thesis

Most businesses diagnose the wrong website problem.

The default story is that the site needs a redesign, or more pages, or a cheaper template. The reality is usually somewhere else: the message is unclear, the offer is weak, the path to enquire is buried, proof is missing, or the build is locked into a platform nobody can maintain. The first move is finding the real constraint, then sequencing the work to remove it.

    It is rarely

    A template problem.

Themes and page builders work. If the business still struggles to convert after a rebuild, the problem is upstream of the skin.

    It is usually

    A diagnosis problem.

The wrong constraint gets a confident answer. More pages, more colour, more plugins. Enquiry quality does not move. Then 'we need SEO' enters the conversation.

    The fix is

    Order of operations.

Diagnose first, message second, design third, build fourth. Almost every weak site we inherit was activity without diagnosis.

    02 / Three lenses

Three lenses on every website we build.

The same three diagnostics, every project, in the same order. Each lens fails differently. Each one needs a different fix.

    Lens 01 · Brand & message

A clear story before a clever layout.

If the offer, audience, and proof are fuzzy, no amount of polish will fix conversion. We start by making the business easy to understand in five seconds.

We askWould a stranger know what you do, and why to choose you?
    Lens 02 · Conversion structure

Built to generate the right leads.

Pages, CTAs, forms, bookings, and proof are arranged so the next step is obvious. We design for qualified enquiry, not just traffic that bounces.

We askIs every important page earning its keep?
    Lens 03 · Performance & ownership

    Fast, maintainable, and yours.

Speed, accessibility, SEO foundations, and clean systems matter after launch. You own the site. We support as much or as little as you need.

We askWill this still work hard for you in two years?
    03 / The conversion standard

    Clarity is the operating metric.

A branded performance website earns its keep when the right visitor understands the offer, trusts the brand, and takes a clear next step. We judge pages by that outcome, not by how many sections they contain.

    Range / Weak signal
    Vague

    Visitor leaves unsure

Headline is generic, offer is buried, proof is missing. People browse and leave without a clear reason to act.

    Range / Mixed
    Pretty

    Looks good, still soft

Design is polished but the path to enquire is muddy. Forms are long, CTAs compete, or messaging talks about you instead of the customer.

    Range / Healthy
    Clear

    Confident next step

Visitor understands the offer, trusts the brand, and can book or enquire without friction. This is the baseline we design to.

    Range / Strong
    Sharp

    Qualified demand

The right people self-select in. Wrong-fit enquiries drop. The site supports sales conversations instead of creating them from scratch.

    / Principle

    Qualified enquiry > vanity traffic

More visitors only help if they understand what you sell and why it is for them. We design for the conversation that follows.

    / Principle

    One job per section

Each block gets one purpose, one headline, and usually one short supporting line. Competing messages kill conversion.

    / Principle

    Proof next to the ask

Reviews, outcomes, and real work sit close to the CTA. Trust is not a footer afterthought.

    04 / The brand standard

    Brand first. Then the funnel.

A performance website still has to feel like your business. We treat brand as four variables that must work together. Change one and you have a new concept. Change a button colour and you have decoration.

    Variable 01 / AudienceWho

    Who you are talking to

Local small businesses, busy owners, specific trades or niches. The page should feel written for them, not for every possible visitor at once.

    Variable 02 / PromiseWhy

    The argument you are making

What changes for them after they work with you. Clarity, confidence, more leads, less admin. The promise has to be concrete enough to believe.

    Variable 03 / OfferWhat

    The commercial next step

Discovery call, proposal, booking, shop, membership. The offer and CTA must match how people actually buy from you.

    Variable 04 / ExpressionHow

    How the brand shows up

Typography, imagery, tone, and layout working as one composition. Brand first. One job per section. No clutter competing with the message.

    05 / The build standard

    Concentration over clutter.

Most sites are over-built: too many sections, too many CTAs, too many plugins, not enough signal. We concentrate the page on what moves the business, then engineer for speed, accessibility, and ownership.

    Principle

    Custom over cookie cutter

Templates rush the wrong problem. We design around your business, customers, and conversion path, not a theme that looks like everyone else.

    Principle

    Longevity over trends

Sites that still look and work well in 2 to 3 years beat flashy builds that age overnight. Fast, maintainable, easy to update day to day.

    Principle

    Ownership over lock-in

You own the website. No platform traps. Support is available when you want it, without forcing you into a system you cannot control.

    06 / Operating principles

How we think about every decision on your site.

Four mental models underneath the lenses and frameworks. We come back to these when the work gets noisy.

    / Mental model 01
    • The bottleneck changes with stage. A brand new local business needs clarity and trust. A growing one needs better conversion paths, systems, and proof.
    • Generic website advice is almost always wrong once you apply it. The question is which constraint you are at, not what the template catalogue suggests.
    / Mental model 02
    • Most teams misdiagnose the problem. A traffic problem is often a messaging problem. A design problem is often an offer problem.
    • Time spent polishing the wrong page is expensive. Diagnose hard, then build.
    / Mental model 03
    • A good website must reconcile with the business. If the site looks premium but enquiries are weak or wrong-fit, something is off.
    • Pretty screenshots are not the win. Qualified conversations are.
    / Mental model 04
    • Better structure should lead to better decisions for visitors and for you. If a section does not change behaviour, it is overhead.
    • If a block does not earn a click, a call, or clearer understanding, it should not be on the page.
If this matches how you think

Run the same diagnostic on your own website.
